Selecting Carpet Pads

Carpet pads are the foundations of a carpet. It is essential to have proper selection of your carpet’s padding because this is part of your home. You should know that there are 5 types of carpet padding: Waffle rubber , Rebond padding, Foam, Fiber, and Slab rubber padding . But the adundance of those 5 types of carpet padding can easily confuse most consumers. Hope this guides you which one works best for you. Each of these 5 actually presents good foundation to your carpet. The difference lies only in the type of flooring you have in your house. And the trick is to match it with the appropriate padding. This would depend on whether your flooring has a wood flooring, tile or concrete. If you make the wrong choice of carpet padding, it will have a shorter lifespan and your expenses will obviously double. Another factor that you may want to consider is the ability of your carpet padding to resist soiling and with moisture protection.

The first thing to consider – not all parts of the house requires the same carpet padding altogether. Living rooms where people often meet or in heavy traffic areas require the heaviest carpet paddings for the obvious reason. In your bedroom, you can have a light carpet padding if you want it to be more romantic. Of course, your bedroom carpet flooring is seldom trampled upon by people so this is okay.

One of the popular type of carpet paddings available in the market today is the fiber. Fiber in turn is classified into different types: acrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester and wool.

Acrylic is easy to clean, it has good stain resistance and resistant to sunlight as well. On the other hand, you should consider nylon for its varied price range, good abrasion resistance and its fibers are altered to hide soiling. But they easily fade when often exposed to sunlight. The same can be said of polyester.

The sponge rubber is also sensitive to heat and can easily be damaged by dry cleaning solvents. For foam rubber, they are insect proof, mildew proof and non-allergenic. Foam padding that is made from Urethane, on the other hand, is commonly used on concrete slab and basements.

With all these factors put into consideration, you now can choose the right carpet padding for your carpet. You should not just buy any type out of impulse. If you are doing this it is just like throwing your money away. You can save by simply studying the type of flooring of your home and matching it with the carpet padding best suited for it or if you are totally unsure, better ask the carpet technicians.
