How To Remove Carpet

Are you planning on removing your old carpet? Unlike what you may have heard, it’s not that difficult to remove a carpet. It’s something that you can do on your own. In case you would like to install a new carpet or want to build a wooden floor, then you can save hundreds of dollars by taking out the old worn-out carpet by yourself. Illustrated herein, are tips and guidelines on how to remove carpet in a matter of minutes.

What you will require

Before embarking on the project, ensure that you have the following tools in place:

  • Pry or crow bar.

  • Utility knife.

  • Hammer.

  • Masking tape.

Instructions

The following are instructions on how to remove carpet:

  1. Hold the carpet on one end of the room and then jerk it from the staple strip.

  2. Using the utility knife, slice approximately three inches into the carpet from one end. Slice the strip from one end to the other.

  3. Turn over the sliced bit of the carpet, jerking it from the staple bit where necessary.

  4. Use the masking tape to hold the rolled carpet.

  5. Proceed with the slicing and turning over of the carpet until it has been completely removed.

  6. Slice and reel bits of the rug padding in the same manner as you did initially with the rug till you are certain that the rug padding has been eliminated.

  7. Use the pry or crowbar tool as well as a hammer to get rid of the nail bit, where necessary. Slide the pry tool underneath the nail bit close to the tack. Hit the pry tool into position using the hammer. Remove the nail using the pry tool.

What you need to know

You need to keep on changing the blade on your utility knife so as to make your work easy as it will become blunt with time while cutting the rug.

Instead of using a traditional knife to cut the carpet, visit your local home depot store and buy a carpet-cutting knife. They are more efficient compared to the traditional knife.

In case you would like to build a hard-flooring in place of the carpet, it’s important to get rid of the nail strips. On the other hand, if you would like to replace a worn-out rug, all you need to do is to eliminate the previous nail strip.
