Carpet Installation

Much of what our interiors look and feel like depends on our floors. A carpeted house exudes an unmistakable warmth, vibrancy and aesthetic appeal. Wide range of colors, textures, materials and designs available, can transform your home and give every room its individuality. Since carpet installation has a long-term perspective, it is essential that you choose the best one for your needs and install it right.

Once you have chosen the material and design, you need to install it well. Professional carpet installers can do your carpet installation for you, or you can even do it yourself! Doing it yourself, although cheaper than professional carpet installation is not recommended if you don’t have the right tools for the job, lack time and have no previous experience whatsoever. Moreover, if you have to leave the job midway, professional carpet installers may not take it up where you left it. In such a case, your warranty may also be void.

Installing carpetOne way to ensure a professional carpet installation, is buying carpet from an authorized retailer. Your carpeting retailer, more often than not, will have an installation staff. If however, they don’t offer installation service, they still can guide you to reputed and experienced carpet installers. Installation by the retailer may be a little more expensive, but it has its many advantages. Their experience will show in the work they do and you will be at an advantage in the long run. Also, you can approach them if you are not happy with any part of the job.

If however, you are on the look out for low budget carpet installation services, you have the option to hire independent contractors, builders, architects or interior designers. But, always remember to get their references and also enquire about their experience, training and certification. Visiting homes, the carpet installer has worked previously in, is also a good idea, as you can see their work, before you hire them. If it is not possible to visit such homes, at least make it a point to see the pictures of their work. Although such private contractors may offer a lower rate for carpet installation services, than your retailer, the post installation services may be poor. Should you encounter a problem, you may find your options very limited. Despite everything, if you still chose an independent carpet installer, ensure that the installer adheres to the Standard for Installation of Residential Carpet CRI 105.

Choosing the right carpet installer

Choosing the right carpet installer depends entirely on your needs. If you are among those who change their carpets every few years, you may well do with an independent installer. But for the others, a follow up from the retailers can ensure a trouble free experience. Irrespective of whoever you choose for your carpet installation, there are some important points you need to keep in mind. Ensure that before the installation the carpet is power-stretched so that wrinkling and rippling are minimized. It is essential that your rooms are measured well before laying them and the sub floor be made even and vacuum cleaned thoroughly. Vacuum your old carpet before removing it, to eliminate dust. It also helps if the area for carpet installation is open and well ventilated. Ensure that there are no traces of previous carpet padding, cracks or holes. Once laid, the edges need to be trimmed and sealed with hardwood. Seams are best placed under large furniture or where there is strong natural light. Ensure that when laying an adjacent carpet, the designs and patterns have a natural flow and direction. Lastly, any uneven area, or hollow sounding area should be smoothed out.

  1. I thought perhaps I would be up to installing a carpet myself, but after watching that video, I’m not sure I am anymore. I think it would be so much more convenient for an experienced installer to put my new carpet in. I definitely don’t want to end up having a bad looking carpet just to save a little money!

  2. You got my attention when you said that professional carpet installation is recommended if you have no tools and experience in doing the job to prevent damaging your carpet. My son and I are looking to install our new carpet as soon as possible. We don’t want to end up damaging it because it’s a precious gift from our parents. Since we don’t have any idea of installing a carpet efficiently, we’ll make sure to hire a professional instead. Parkerfloorcovering.com/
